CHOOSING WELL

Check the fit before choosing

A useful learning option connects your starting knowledge to a specific next responsibility.

AUDIENCE

Who it is for

Describe your current role and the role or task you are targeting.

STARTING POINT

What you already know

List relevant platform experience and any prerequisite knowledge.

APPLICATION

What you need to practise

Identify the work tasks you want to handle with greater confidence.

BEFORE ENROLMENT

What to confirm

Ask about scope, current credential requirements, delivery format, fees and available dates.

A ROLE-BASED LEARNING PLAN

Choose a pathway you can build on

A course title is only the starting point. Match the learning sequence to your current knowledge and the responsibility you want next.

01Establish the foundations

If the platform is new to you, learn its purpose, core terms and common workflows first. A finance background, coding experience or familiarity with spreadsheets can provide a starting point, but each pathway has its own technical gaps to address.

02Develop role-specific depth

Move from product navigation to the tasks a role owns. A functional learner needs process and configuration practice; a developer needs code, testing and integration; an analyst needs reliable models and a clear explanation of the numbers.

03Prepare for the credential

Use the current Microsoft credential page and study guide to check the assessed skills. Compare those requirements with your practice record. Confirm the exam or assessment, language, fees and any renewal requirements before booking.

04Keep evidence beyond the result

Retain a sanitised sample of your work and a short explanation of how you tested it. An exam result describes one achievement; a portfolio helps you discuss how you apply the knowledge to a task and recognise its limitations.

PRACTICAL EVIDENCE

Know what you want to be able to demonstrate

Use an observable task to make each learning choice more precise. These examples help you compare the six technology areas above.

Business Central functional

Explain a sales or purchasing process, configure a small scenario and reconcile the resulting entries. Document the setup decisions and user checks so someone else can repeat the process.

Business Central development

Build a small AL extension, keep its changes in version control and test expected and invalid inputs. Explain its permissions, dependencies and how you would maintain it when the application changes.

Fabric and Power BI

Describe where the data comes from, how it is prepared and what a measure means. Demonstrate a model or report, reconcile a sample result and explain access boundaries and refresh expectations.

Azure and security

Explain a sample workload and the identity, network and monitoring decisions around it. Document a routine operational task and a failure response, including what must be checked before declaring recovery.

Microsoft 365 and Power Platform

Map a collaboration or approval requirement to the right tools. Demonstrate a small workflow, handle a rejected or incomplete request and explain ownership, permissions and ongoing support.

Copilot and AI agents

Define a narrow user task, permitted knowledge sources and a clear escalation point. Prepare test questions, inspect inaccurate or incomplete answers and explain how human review protects the workflow.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Certification preparation questions

Plan the learning and the credential as related decisions with different requirements.

Do I need to start with a fundamentals credential?

Start with the knowledge you need, rather than assuming every pathway requires the same exam sequence. Review the current Microsoft prerequisites and assessed skills for your chosen credential. Tell the India desk what you already know so that your enquiry can focus on the actual gap.

How should I choose between Power BI and Fabric learning?

Begin with your intended responsibility. If you need to analyse information and communicate results, focus your brief on preparation, modelling, measures and reports. If you need to build and operate the data foundation, include ingestion, storage, transformation and governance. Some roles need both; describe the work before choosing the scope.

What should I confirm before enrolling?

Ask for the learning objectives, expected prior knowledge, practice environment, delivery format and what is included in the fee. Confirm separately whether an exam, assessment or voucher is included. Course participation should not be treated as proof that a Microsoft credential has been awarded.
