A PRACTICAL TECHNOLOGY BRIEF

Start with the operating problem

A technology requirement becomes easier to scope when the process, information and ownership are clear.

Finance and operations

Describe the business flow that needs attention: purchasing, order processing, inventory or finance reporting. Identify the manual steps, exceptions and controls involved so a Business Central requirement can be discussed in the context of the whole process.

Data and decisions

Identify the report or decision that is difficult today, where the information comes from and which figures people dispute. A Fabric or Power BI discussion should cover definitions, preparation, access and ongoing ownership alongside the visual output.

Cloud, collaboration and automation

Describe the users, applications and recurring tasks involved. For Azure, Microsoft 365 or Power Platform, include identity, permissions, operational support and the effect of failure. For AI, define the task and the point at which a person must review the result.

TECHNOLOGY AND CAPABILITY

Plan for the people who will use and maintain it

A working system needs clear responsibilities after configuration or implementation.

01Identify the owners

Name the business owner, platform owner and the people who handle day-to-day support. Clarify who approves a process change, resolves a data issue and decides whether a proposed automation is acceptable.

02Identify the capability gap

Separate missing platform knowledge from insufficient capacity or specialist experience. Use Academy to describe the learning need and Talents Gateway to explain the contribution required from an additional professional.

03Describe a useful handover

Specify the process notes, configuration record, test evidence and operational instructions the team will need. Include how a user gets help and how future changes should be reviewed.

NEXT STEP
